your inspiration

where does your inspiration come from? when you create, are you solely responsible for what you produce?

this video of a seminar by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat. Pray. Love., blew my mind. she talks about the pressure on creative people to create when society believes that it comes solely from the artist. her contention is a totally old way to view the creative process, but completely subversive to modern views on artists and their art.

enjoy!

the nerve of some people

a woman cut me off today

then flipped me off

because i was only going ten miles an hour

over the speed limit

she was on her cell phone at the time

and had to let go of the

steering wheel to offer me

her middle finger.

as she sped

away, i saw a silver fish

on the back of her car and a bumper-

sticker reading "DRIVING FOR JESUS."

i too am religious

so i said a quick prayer

that she wrap her car around a telephone pole

as soon as possible.

amen.
